Ancient Medical Books
The Museum of Medicine houses the O. Demol and M.F. Kahn collections of medical books from the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. These works cover a wide range of topics, including physiology, rheumatism, the nervous system, contagious diseases, venereal and mental disorders, surgery, obstetrics, and more. Most are written in French, with some in English or Latin. Several volumes include illustrations, explanatory plates, and are divided into multiple tomes. Among them are works by renowned figures such as Broussais, Dupuytren, Paré, Pasteur, Laennec, Bichat, and Charcot.
In addition to these collections, the Museum also holds a significant archive of historical medical periodicals, on loan from the Royal Library. Many original medical journals from the time are available for consultation.
