Egyptian Medicine

The medicine of the ancient Near East is illustrated through objects linked to magical and religious practices amulets, ointment jars, instruments, protective deities and complemented by references to fertility. The exhibition also includes a series of human body parts and mummified animals, whose contents have been identified through medical imaging.

Pre-Columbian Medicine

The Pre-Columbian collection highlights five key themes: the shaman-healer, motherhood, diseases, treatments, purifying enemas, and sacrificial practices. This rare and essential artistic production, crucial for iconodiagnostic study, depicts cleft lips, cachectic states, cases of scoliosis, osteoporosis, skin lesions, blindness, as well as trophy skull deformations and fertility amulets.

The collection also features a series of terracotta figures from Nayarit, Colima, and Jalisco, illustrating scenes of motherhood, childbirth, breastfeeding, and the care of young children.
